Country estate – nr Exeter

The Brief:

A private client in the South West sought to commission a home cinema that would rival the finest private screening rooms in the UK. Given complete creative freedom, we designed a space where world-class technology meets architectural elegance.

The Experience:

The room features a 4k projector, ensuring incredibly sharp, detailed and lifelike visuals, alongside a 4.2m wide projection screen, partnered with an invisible, Dolby Atmos certified 7.4.4 loudspeaker array, for a truly immersive, object-based audio, providing detailed sound from all directions. By concealing all loudspeaker components behind bespoke acoustic cladding, we ensured the focus remained entirely on the cinematic experience. We executed a hand-commissioned star ceiling utilising 2400 individual optical filaments. The system features a full-spectrum chromatic engine, allowing the client to transition seamlessly from a realistic twilight glow to a vibrant, themed illumination. With three tiers of custom-made reclining seating, the space offers every guest an unobstructed, front-row view of the action. This project was a submission for the CEDIA awards 2023.

Luxury modern home – Lympstone (revisited)

The Brief:

Having maintained this property’s systems for several years, we were invited to perform a comprehensive technological “refresh.” The goal was to transition the home from complex, legacy hardware to a streamlined, intuitive ecosystem.

The Experience:

We replaced an aging hard drive and keypad-based system with sophisticated Sonos architecture, allowing the client effortless control of their entire music library, digital music streaming and listen to the radio via smartphone. We also updated the outboard amplification. The visual experience was elevated with the latest OLED TV technology, while the infrastructure was future-proofed with a high-capacity PoE network, neatly housed in a custom-engineered pivoting rack for easier future maintenance.

Contemporary home – Newton Abbot

The Brief:

The clients wanted to illuminate their property without the “glare” of mass-produced, metallic fixtures. They sought a solution that felt organic to the landscape while maintaining a strict commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship.

The Experience:

We moved away from traditional brass or stainless steel, opting for hand-poured, 75% recycled concrete fittings. These fixtures were crafted by our partner Dan Heap and from his Urbanlicht range, using crushed construction waste and a low-carbon cement binder, resulting in a textured, stone-like finish that ages beautifully and takes on a natural, weathered patina over time. The use of 2700K warmth against the cool grey concrete created a sophisticated feel. To manage the system, we utilised a Lutron Processor and Keypad, also the user-friendly app that allows control of the lighting from anywhere in the world.
