Dated marine Audio Visual:
Before the refit, the vessel relied on an aging, fragmented entertainment system that had fallen behind modern standards. The setup consisted of standard “off-the-shelf” automotive and domestic components that were not optimised for a high-end marine environment.
The Brief:
The objective was to transition this vessel’s entertainment system from fragmented, legacy hardware into a cohesive, high-performance marine network. Our goal was to deliver a “home-from-home” experience, ensuring that whether the boat is at the marina or in open water, the client has effortless, app-based control and high-fidelity audio.
The Experience:
The result is a sophisticated marine environment where technology serves the lifestyle without cluttering the aesthetic. By replacing bulky, aging components we’ve acoustically opened up the Saloon, Flybridge and Aft Deck, vastly improving audio depth. From a quiet mornings to a full cinematic experience in the Saloon, the system provides reliable, premium performance—even in the choppiest conditions.
The Marine Audio Visual Overhaul:
We completely modernised the audio-visual system in the Saloon and transformed the audio on the Flybridge and Aft Deck on this vessel, moving away from a dated, CD/FM/AM “car-style” head unit and aging surround sound to a fully integrated, app-controlled Sonos ecosystem all connected to Starlink.
Key Upgrades:
• Centralised Power: We replaced the old, inefficient car head unit with a Sonos Amp. This provides cleaner power to the new James Loudspeakers and allows the client to control their music wirelessly from anywhere on the boat.
• Saloon Cinema: The aging Bose surround system was stripped out and replaced with a Sonos Beam. This provides a significantly wider soundstage and better integration with the boat’s overall network.
• Cabin TV’s: Outdated 4:3 TV’s were updated with new 16:9 Smart TV’s, where we worked closely our specialist carpenter to fabricate new marine-grade ply surrounds, allowing the new Avtex TV’s to be flush-mounted perfectly within the cabin bulkheads and ready to be upholstered.
• Bespoke Housing: To keep the “hidden” aesthetic, we custom-built wooden enclosures to house the Sonos hardware, ensuring it is secure, ventilated, and completely out of sight. Everything was fixed down, so nothing would come out of place in choppy waters.
Modern Integration
By unifying the entire vessel under the Sonos platform, we’ve ensured that the audio experience is seamless. Whether it’s high-fidelity music on deck via James Loudspeakers or a movie in the cabin with the Sonos Beam, it’s all controllable from a single interface.
